Sue Jaunzemis, administrator/director of care at the Fordwich Nursing Home, spoke at a recent Clifford Merry Makers meeting at Jamesway Manor.
She spoke of the 33 residents who live upstairs with the activation, nursing, clergy, art, music, and dental programs downstairs. She also addressed myths of long-term care, reassuring everyone fresh, healthy meals and snacks are prepared every day along with a regular dinner program that attracts 35 to 60 people. The home encourages family gatherings and tries to honour special requests and traditions such as the men’s coffee club. Group outings are arranged and the residents are actively engaged, Jaunzemis said.
She noted there is a push from the government to keep people safe in their own homes. People still need to qualify for residential care. The assessment is based on personal finances and not assets.
