The Town of Minto is gearing up for a major street reconstruction project in Harriston next year.
Business and economic development coordinator Mandy Jones advised members at the Jan. 9 Economic Development Committee meeting that the “big dig” will take place in 2015.
The project will involve construction on Elora Street from Young Street to the stop lights at Arthur Street.
A public open house is being planned to address any potential issues related to the project.
Commercial land sale
Town council has approved the sale of a piece of commercial property for a new gas bar in Palmerston.
At the Feb. 3 meeting, council authorized the sale of a commercial lot fronting on Wellington Road 123 west of Minto Road in the Palmerston Industrial Park to “Sarabjit Mehat In Trust” for $25,000.
A staff report on the transaction from CAO Bill White notes the gas bar will be beside a planned Tim Hortons and will share a common access to the county road.
The report notes the purchaser is required to pay a third of the cost of constructing and maintaining the shared access and to work with Tim Hortons to address truck movements and truck parking through the site plan control process.
The agreement is subject to development covenants requiring construction to be completed within two years and includes a buy-back clause for the town if a building permit is not issued within six months.
