Centre Wellington councillors recently approved new terms of reference for an economic development advisory committee.
In a press release economic development officer Patricia Rutter stated, “The new terms better reflect the current mandate and activities for economic development in the township which include a more collaborative approach with the County of Wellington and surrounding communities, an ongoing business retention and expansion program, and expanded communications with businesses and agencies.”
The committee is hoping to add new members to represent a broad spectrum of sectors including agriculture, health care, manufacturing, real estate, retail and creative industries.
The committee will also continue to include representation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment and the Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce.
Representatives and experts from other agencies and sectors will be added as needed for various projects or consultations.
Rutter said the committee should be up and running “by the end of March, which coincides with the release of the Business Retention and Expansion Project results for the township and the county.”
The committee will work on creating an action plan for the township based on the project results and coordinate efforts with the anticipated county action plan.
