Guelph-Eramosa Township lauded two employees on Monday night for their long-standing service and dedication.
Laura Smith, a member of the finance department, was recognized for 25 years of service and Rod McClure, of the roads department, for 15 years with the municipality.
“We see you guys out there doing your jobs … but we really don’t say enough,” councillor Doug Breen told the pair during a Jan. 20 presentation.
“I just want to say how much I personally appreciate [your efforts], and I appreciate it as a taxpayer, too.”
Mayor Chris White explained Smith started with former Guelph Township in 1988 and is renowned for her “knowledge and expertise in municipal taxes and municipal government.”
“You got one of the tough jobs,” White told Smith before thanking her for “sticking it out for 25 years.”
McClure started on the roads crew in former Eramosa Township in 1998 and has recently taken on “a valuable leadership position” as a foreman of the roads department, White explained.
“Thank you for your years of dedicated service,” White told McClure, who also served last year as interim manager of public works.
Breen noted both Smith and McClure were both around prior to amalgamation in 1999, which in itself was “a chore.”
He added much has been accomplished since that time and he thanked Smith and McClure for their respective roles in the township’s growth and success.
