CO detectors now required by law

Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever is reminding residents that carbon monoxide detectors are now required by law.

On Dec. 18 Lever passed on the message from the township’s fire and rescue department that there is going to be a notice attached to the model train at the Marina Restaurant.

The model train travels around an overhead track in the dining room. Lever explained the message to be attached to the train is that both smoke and CO alarms are required.

“It’s an important change to the legislation,” Lever added.

He said smoke detectors were required for a long time, but the CO alarm requirement is relatively new.

This was brought especially close to home in Puslinch earlier that day.

“At one of our industrial sites in Puslinch, Con Cast Pipe, where carbon monoxide was an issue, a number of workers were taken to hospital as a result,” said Lever.

He noted there were some serious concerns regarding one of the injured workers at the plant which was temporarily evacuated. Those taken to hospital were released later that day.
