As of shortly before noon on Dec. 23, the Centre Wellington Township website offered the following updates from its operational departments.
Most of the power has been restored in the Town of Fergus and Village of Elora by Centre Wellington Hydro. The local utility serves about 6,200 customers.
Centre Wellington operations manager Wayne Dyce explained crews began responding to the power outages about 2:30am on Dec. 22, continuing work until 10pm.
Dyce said work began once again today (Dec. 23) with work anticipated to be complete by 10pm.
As of 1:30pm, Dyce estimated there were still about 60 customers in the urban areas of Fergus and Elora without power.
For the crews, this means dealing with about 40 different power outages.
Hydro One continues to work on power services for those still without in the rural areas.
Residents can check the Hydro One website for further information: www.hydroone.com.
The Fergus Sportsplex is open Dec. 23 until midnight and can be used by the public for showers, a rest on a cot or as a warming centre. The Elora Community Centre is also open today as a warming centre.
There are lots of downed power lines and tree limbs. The public is asked to use caution on roads and sidewalks and avoid downed power lines especially.
First Line is closed between Gilkison and Spencer due to downed trees.
Sideroad 30 from 6th Line to 7th Line is also closed.
Sideroad 5 from 8th Line to Woolwich-Pilkington Line is closed.
Residents with broken tree limbs and branches can place them at the curb where they will be picked up by the Public Works Department over the next few weeks.
