Horticultural awards presented

President Bill Cheeseman welcomed District 7 treasurer Kathy Bouma to the head table at the Clifford and District Horticultural Society Christmas potluck and awards presentation on Nov. 26 at the community hall here.

Cheeseman was appreciative of the volunteers who set up the room, set out the food, cleared the tables, and provided the entertainment for the evening: Elsie Grummett, Arthena Underwood, Ethel Weber and Blanche Freeman. He also complimented Freeman on creating the placemats, Georgie Hutchison on the Newsletters, Ann Bowen and her flower planting crew, Barb Harris for the flower shows, membership convenors Vic and Trish Palmer, and all those who keep Clifford beautiful.

Special awards were presented to Becky Walters and Jean Yenssen. Georgie Hutchison announced that she and youth leader Karen Dowler were proud of the accomplishments of all the youth members. Two youth members were only a few points apart in winning the Helene Held Memorial Youth Award. Robert Held, accompanied by his father Max Held presetned Becky Walters with the award.

Barb Harris announced the member with the most points in both spring and summer flower shows would earn the Edna Litt Memorial Award.  Edna’s son Larry Litt and daughter Elaine Binkley presented Jean Yenssen with the award.

Cheeseman expressed appreciation for his term as president and invited Bouma to install the incoming executive:. president Georgie Hutchison vice-president Vic Palmer; secretary Marion Wylie and  treasurer Karen Dowler. One-year director are Ethel Weber, Helen Braun, Doris Jaunzemis, Blanche Freeman and Trish Palmer, while two-year directors include Barb Harris, Ann Bowen, Elsie Grummett, Jean Yenssen, Isabel Senek.
