Firefighters make donation to EWCS

“Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

That was the response from East Wellington Community Services (EWCS) manager Rick Eller to a recent $1,500 donation from the Rockwood Firefighters Association.

The cheque, which represents the proceeds from a firefighters’ barbecue and bottle driver earlier this year, as well as from community donations and a “top up” by the firefighters association, was presented to EWCS on Dec. 16.

The funds will go directly  to the EWCS food bank’s hamper program, along with 500 pounds of food collected by the association.

“Every year we have the need, and every year this group steps up to the plate,” Eller said of Guelph-Eramosa firefighters. “We really appreciate it.”

He thanked firefighters on behalf of those who will benefit from the donation, explaining the money will help support four families of four for a month.

Firefighters stressed they could not have made the donation without the help of the community, which was very generous to several firefighters’ fundraisers.
