Guelph-Eramosa is seeking a $650,000 grant from the province to help reconstruct a portion of Speedvale Avenue West.
Township officials estimate the cost to rebuild Speedvale from Wellington Road 32 to the Guelph city limits will be $875,645.
The township plans to cover $225,000 of the project from its reserves if the $650,645 grant request is approved by the province under its Small, Rural and Northern Municipal Infrastructure Fund.
The township submitted an expression of interest for the grant prior to the Nov. 1 deadline. If successful, the township will have to submit a full application in January.
New generator
The township has approved the purchase of a new generator for the Rockmosa Community Centre in Rockwood.
Council had approved a budget of $50,000 for the generator, but the two bids received by the municipality were both significantly higher: $68,900 from Rowe Electric and $99,700 from Juno Electric (both not including HST).
After a meeting between Rowe Electric and township staff to discuss alternative options the quote was revised to $57,960 including HST.
Council approved the purchase and the transfer of $7,960 (the cost over and above the budget) from its emergency measures fund to complete the purchase.
2014 meeting schedule
After delaying approval of its 2013 schedule for almost two months, council ended up going with the status quo when it comes to council and committee meetings.
Council dismissed the idea of Thursday night meetings – as suggested by councillor John Scott – instead opting to stick with Monday nights.
Council will meet on the first and third Monday of the month, except:
– in February, April, May and September one meeting of the month will be held the next day (Tuesday) due to a holiday;
– in July and August there is only one meeting, on the second Monday of the month; and
– only one meeting in October due to the election.
