Town agrees to maintain two county roads this winter

The town has agreed to continue providing winter maintenance for  portions of two county roads that pass through the municipality.

Minto has provided plowing, sanding and patrol service on the Wellington Roads 2 and 3 for several years on a contract basis.

“Last winter season was an extremely heavy year for snow and ice and the county paid us $5,500/km to plow and sand their two county roads,” stated public works director Brian Hansen at the Nov. 5 council meeting.

For 2013-14, the county offered compensation of $5,800/km for the maintenance of 14.4km, from Nov. 15, to April 8,

Hansen said the contract will cover the actual cost of maintenance and the budgeted revenue from the county of $60,000 in 2013 can be increased to $83,520 based on $5,800/km for the 2014 budget.

Council received the report and agreed the town would maintain the roads at the compensation level offered by the county.
