There were plenty of smiles to go around in Fergus and Elora, as the annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign raised $12,438 for Food and Friends.
Community program coordinator Bobbi Turner explained Food and Friends is part of the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington.
“What we do is to help facilitate school nutrition programs – breakfast, lunch and snack programs in Wellington, Dufferin and Guelph,” Turner said.
She noted the organization currently has 93 programs serving about 14,400 students across the region.
“The Smile Cookie campaign from Tim Hortons has been amazing for us because they raised over $55,000 this year,” said Turner.
“If you look at how much it costs to serve a breakfast or lunch to a student you are looking at $1.30 per meal … it’s a lot of breakfasts.”
This is the 13th year of the organization’s involvement with the Smile Cookie campaign.
Centre Wellington
Food and Friends will receive $12,438 from Tim Hortons Smile Cookie fundraiser in Fergus and Elora.
The move was part of a number of similar donations throughout Wellington County.
“This year’s campaign was a major success yet again, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of so many loyal guests,” said Jane and Kevin Clark, Tim Hortons Restaurant owners.
“The Smile Cookie campaign is always special to our community because proceeds go directly to Food and Friends. So not only does the money raised go to a good cause – it stays within Fergus and Elora. We couldn’t be happier.”
Town of Erin
In Erin, Lori and Andrew Paterson, Tim Hortons Restaurant owners, were proud to be providing a donation to Food and Friends of $1,360.
North Wellington
In the north, local Smile Cookie campaigns in Arthur, Harriston and Mount Forest raised another $5,291.
Mark Vines, Tim Hortons Restaurant owner, was at the Arthur location to make the donation.
Nationally, Tim Hortons Restaurant Owners support more than 345 local charities through the annual Smile Cookie Fundraiser.
In 2012, the campaign raised over $4.2 Million to benefit communities where Tim Hortons operates.
