Fall fire safety

The Minto Fire Department offers the following tips to stay fire safe this fall:

 – never park a vehicle over a pile of leaves; the heat from it can ignite the leaves below;

– make sure home heating systems are in good working order; and

– fireplaces should be equipped with an appropriate screen or glass enclosure to prevent sparks from flying out.

– wood burning stoves should be examined by having the flue and chimney checked for creosote buildup; and

– make sure an ample quantity of fully functioning CO detectors are installed in your home if you have a gas heater.
