Fergus BIA to host video competition

The Fergus Business Improvement Area (BIA) is sponsoring a video contest to produce a creative video shot on the theme: “Fergus Through Your Eyes.”

“We invite interested writers, producers and videographers to visit our community and create a brief video that captures your impressions, your connection, your response to Fergus,” stated Jackie Fraser, Fergus BIA chair.

“Tell us the short story of how it relates to you. Reflect back to us, the people who live and work here, what’s cool about Fergus and the story it tells.”

No ideas are off the table. Producers can use words and pictures. The story can be scenic, poignant or funny, documentary or drama, from any point of view.

An award of $3,000 will be presented for the first prize-winning video. The second place winner will receive $1,500 and the third place winner will receive $500.

All remaining finalists whose videos are selected for screening will receive $100 in credit vouchers redeemable for merchandise and services from Downtown Fergus BIA members and merchants.

Entries must be submitted by Feb. 28, 2014.  A number of finalists will be chosen from among all videos received and their video will be shown to the public at a free screening at the Fergus Grand Theatre in April.

Winners will be selected by a panel of judges representing the Fergus BIA, in combination with public participation.

“We’re really excited about this competition,” stated Fraser.

“Not only will we get some great video footage to use to promote Fergus, but the buzz around the competition itself will generate interest in our town. Downtown Fergus has so much to offer, we’re inviting everyone to check us out.”

Full contest details are available at www.downtownfergus.ca and producers must register using the online form.
