Reports removed from list of non-agenda items

As council reviewed the minutes of the Dec. 13 council meeting, Mayor Lou Maieron said he has concerns with what was reported regarding the committee of the whole of Nov. 15. That report stated that following a long discussion of a committee of the whole option, council passed a resolution that staff be directed to amend the procedural bylaw to make the fourth Tuesday of each month for a regular staff and council working meeting and the purpose is for sharing information between council and staff.

That report stated that following a long discussion of a committee of the whole option, council passed a resolution that staff be directed to amend the procedural bylaw to make the fourth Tuesday of each month for a regular staff and council working meeting and the purpose is for sharing information between council and staff.

Further, correspondence for discussion and reply, delegations or reports would not be agenda items.

“I have concerns with reports not being part of that discussion,” Maieron said.

He said, “If a topic arises and council is instructed to bring back a report, where could the report show up?”

He said if council wants to have more information on “X” next month …

Councillor John Brennan did not believe that was the intention of the resolution.

Maieron said he just wants to make sure reports are not left out of it.

Councillor Barb Tocher suggested the intent was reports for information would go to the working meeting, but no reports for decision or direction.

Brennan suggested removing reference to reports.

Councillors later amended the motion to remove the reference to reports of items to not be listed as agenda items.
