Township agrees to donation to food guide

Guelph-Eramosa councillor Reta Moyer says she is in favour of contributing to a food guide that could promote local businesses – she just wants to make sure it is clear what the township is getting for its money.

Earlier this month, the township’s strategic planning committee had a presentation from Dave Rushton, Economic Development Manager for Centre Wellington Township, which annually produces the Recipes to Experience guide.

Given that some Guelph-Eramosa businesses are already included in the guide, and that many visitors travel through the township on their way to events and other attractions in Centre Wellington, the committee recommended a $1,000 donation to support the brochure.

“It’s an opportunity to support businesses in the township,” Mayor Chris White said on May 17.

He added the township has already expressed to Centre Wellington officials its desire to see more maps in the guide and also to have more Guelph-Eramosa businesses included. He said the township can send a letter to guide producers, reiterating its wishes.

However, White also noted the guide has won a provincial award and a $1,000 donation is not a huge commitment.

Council voted unanimously in favour of providing the $1,000 donation.
