Puslinch kicks off parade season Nov. 23

ABERFOYLE – Santa will be greeted with silver and gold, and glitz and shimmer, when he arrives in Aberfoyle for his annual parade.

Hosted by the Optimist Club of Puslinch, the Puslinch Santa Claus Parade on Nov. 23 is the second parade in Wellington County.

The theme is Tinsel Town Christmas, “and we encourage floats to follow our theme,” said Optimist Ken Williams, who with his wife June Williams are the main organizers of the event.

“Usually they embrace it.”

The Optimists don’t charge an entry fee for floats as they want to encourage community participation.

It’s been a successful strategy, Williams noted.

“We get a good cross-section of the community,” he said.

Floats gather at the Puslinch municipal office on Wellington Road 34 at 1pm and the parade gets underway at 1:30pm. It heads east on Wellington Road 34, south on Brock Road and then wraps up at the Optimist Recreation Centre beside the Puslinch Community Centre.

Santa always comes back to the rink, Williams said, to visit with children and share in some post-parade refreshments.

The Optimists offer hot chocolate, hot dogs and a bag of goodies for children.
