Police beat: Four-vehicle crash

ERIN – Police are investigating a four-vehicle collision here on Monday evening that sent multiple people to hospital.

On Oct. 6 at about 6:45pm, emergency crews responded to the crash on Main Street in Erin.

“All involved parties were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” stated a Wellington County OPP press release.

Main Street (Wellington Road 124) was closed for several hours for the investigation.

Drug, weapon charges

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A Wellington North man,  who was among three charged after a traffic stop here last week, is facing drug and weapon charges.

Wellington County OPP officials say an officer was monitoring traffic on Oct. 1 at about 3:30pm when they received a notice about a stolen vehicle on their cruiser’s automatic license plate recognition system.

“The officer conducted a traffic stop on 4th Line in Guelph/Eramosa Township,” police stated in an Oct. 2 press release.

Ryan McKay, 44, of Wellington North, was charged with possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, two counts of possession of a schedule I substance (methamphetamine and opioid) and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime (over and under $5,000). He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Michael Purcell, 43, of Cambridge, was charged with driving while suspended and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime (over and under $5,000). He is to appear in Guelph court on Nov. 7.

Sarah Wilbee, 39, of Cambridge, was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime (over and under $5,000). She is to appear in Guelph court on Nov. 7.

Partner violence

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police continue to lay intimate partner violence charges across the county.

Those arrested include:

– a 55-year-old from Fergus, who was charged with assault (spousal) and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm (spousal) in relation to an incident in Fergus on Sept. 29; and

– a 41-year-old from Mount Forest, who was charged with assault (spousal) and mischief (domestic) in relation to an incident in Mount Forest on Oct. 5.

The accused individuals are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Vehicle charges

ERIN – A Brampton resident and an associated business have been charged after a traffic stop here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say officers pulled over a commercial vehicle on Sept. 29 at about 2:30pm on McCullogh Drive in Erin.

A 24-year-old Brampton driver was charged with driving a vehicle with a major defect, overweight on tires, overweight single axle, improper tires and failing to accurately complete daily inspection report

Police say “a local business associated [with] the traffic stop” faces five similar charges.

The accused people are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Suspended driver

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Police have charged a local resident with driving while suspended after a RIDE program here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say officer conducting the RIDE program, on Sept. 30 at about 11pm, saw  a “vehicle approach, suddenly stop, conduct a U-turn and leave in the opposite direction.

“Upon stopping the vehicle, police learned that the driver was suspended.”

A 45-year-old from Fergus was charged wit driving while suspended. 

The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Driver, business charged

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A London driver and an associated business are facing a combined 16 charges after a traffic stop here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say officers were monitoring traffic near Wellington Road 39 in Guelph/Eramosa when they pulled over a commercial vehicle.

A 40-year-old from London was charged with five commercial vehicle charges, including driving without a proper licence, and was given warnings for seven additional offences.

Police say a business associated with the traffic stop is facing 11 commercial vehicle charges, including failing to carry proof of insurance.

The accused individuals are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
