KENILWORTH – Wellington North has approved its schedule for creating and finalizing the 2026 consolidated budget.
Budget templates were circulated to the township’s senior management team on Sept. 5, and the schedule was approved on Sept. 8.
Budget inputs have now been provided to the finance team for consolidation, and budget discussions between senior management team members and finance director Jerry Idialu will be taking place until Oct. 8.
On Oct. 22, staff members are set to provide the consolidated budget draft to the senior management team for review.
They are then planning to present the proposed budget to council on Nov. 3, and the revised budget to the public on Dec. 1.
On Dec. 15, staff and council are set to present the budget to the public again with the hopes of passing it during that meeting.
On Sept. 8 Idialu provided a general fund financial summary comparing 2025 budgeted revenues and expenses to actual year-to-date revenues and expenses.
There is a current surplus of $271,653, but some bills and funds are yet to come in.
Overall, the budgeted revenue was $10,827,206, while the actual revenues totalled to date are $10,389,297.
The majority of revenue comes from taxation (budgeted $5,653,155; actual $5,248,648) and fees and service charges (budgeted $3,228,481; actual $3,165,009).
The discrepancy in taxation is because the township has not yet received all of the taxes for 2025.
Budgeted expenses totalled $10,827,297 while actual expenses totalled $10,117,644.
The largest expenses were transfers to the capital fund ($2,132,156 budgeted and actual) and roadways ($1,980,002 budgeted; $1,955,381 actual).
Other significant expenses were recreation (budgeted $1,235,971; actual 989,266), sanitary sewers (budgeted $1,194,822; actual $970,386), administration (budgeted $885,109; actual $717,057); water works (budgeted $759,403; actual $693,105) and transfers to reserves ($659,112 budgeted and actual).
Most of the discrepancies are due to the timing of expenses, with more invoices expected in the next few months.
