CENTRE WELLINGTON – National Forest Week is Sept. 21 to 27 and the local Tree Trust community group has three events to celebrate.
On Sept. 20, Tree Trust will be hosting its first-ever Tree Fest from 9:30am to 12:30pm at Confederation Park in Fergus, located below the Queen Street East parking lot.
Volunteers working on the CW Food Forest will be on site to answer questions about locally grown food.
“Professor” Braedon Witt will be talking trees for young and old. Visitors will have a chance to test their tree knowledge at the Tree IQ table with door prizes.
At 10am Al Koop and Rob Guthrie will lead guests on an exploration of the early history of Fergus along a stretch of the Grand River.
The Tree Fest is free; the walk is $10 but free for Neighbourwoods members.
To register for the walk RSVP to Kate at walksandtalks@treetrust.ca.
A week later, on Sept. 27, Centre Wellington’s Tree of the Year will be celebrated at a public ceremony at the foot of the tree on 22 York Street West in Elora.
Mayor Shawn Watters will present the Tree of the Year sash, crafted by artist Randi Vann.
Arborist Phil Guenter will share insights about the winning Manitoba Maple.
The ceremony runs from 10 to 11am. For more info, contact Toni at director@treetrust.ca
And to follow up National Forest Week, Tree Trust is hosting a guided forest walk and mead tasting in Belwood on Sept. 30 from 4 to 6pm.
