MOUNT FOREST – Over the summer, three young Conn residents – Erinn (7), Robin (5) and Teddy Weber (3) – took on an enterprising project of constructing a lemonade stand.
The three got the idea from a magazine and with the assistance of their parents Sue and Merle, the family got to work.
Once construction was complete, the next step was to open for business and sell some lemonade.
“One day, we were driving by the sign for the new pool and Robin said, ‘We should give the money from the lemonade stand to the new pool,’” said Sue.
She explained the kids take part in swimming lessons at the Arthur pool, and have asked numerous times about going to Mount Forest to swim.
With the Mount Forest aquatics ad-hoc advisory committee fundraising for a new pool, as well as the kids’ desire to swim in Mount Forest, donating the proceeds to the new pool was a “great idea.”
The decision was made to run the lemonade stand on Aug. 23 at the corner of Wellington Road 6 (Seven Bridges Road) and Highway 89.
With the help of some friends and family promoting the sale, as well as providing some baked goods to sell along with the lemonade, the day was a success.
On Aug. 26, Erinn, Robin and Teddy presented their donation of $500 to the committee, all of which was raised from the sale of goods at the stand that day.
“On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank Erinn, Robin and Teddy for their amazing donation of $500 toward the new Mount Forest pool,” said Sherry Burke, committee chair.
“Their hard work in building and operating this lemonade stand is commendable, and for them to donate the proceeds of their hard work to the new pool is amazing.
“Thank you for supporting our project and thank you to everyone in the community who supported these youngsters in their fundraiser.”
The new Mount Forest Outdoor Pool will be located on Princess Street, adjacent to the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
The approximately $5.3-million project has a community fundraising goal of $2.5 million.
Once 80 per cent of the fundraising target has been met, next steps will begin.
To date, more than $1,050,000 has been raised.
