Pentz drain work to be done this fall for $90,675

MAPLETON –  Council here has awarded a tender for improvements to Pentz Drain.

The work is to be completed by Hanna and Hamilton Constuction Co. Ltd. between about Oct. 15 and Nov. 15 for $90,675 including tax.

That’s about 90 per cent of the estimated cost of the project.

Council awarded the tender during a regular meeting of council on Aug. 12. Two other companies bid on the project: Dozlan Construction, that said it could complete the work between November and February for $98,400 before tax, and TAS Excavating and Rentals Ltd. that offered to do the job between August and December for $94,320.

There were no questions, comments or discussion from council about the bids or tender award.

The drain, which is located on Wellington Road 7, was originally built in 1967.

The project includes installing about 1,400 feet of closed drain and the minor clean-out of 705 feet of open drain.

Straw bale sediment check dam will be installed, disturbed areas will be seeded, topsoil will be stripped along the drain connection route, a new catch basin will be installed and the road ditch will be filled and grated to meet the new catch basin location.

On top of the price of the drain construction, the project is expected to cost the township an additional $60,000 for allowances, reports, inspections, procedures and financing.
