Firefighters’ breakfast sees over 1,200 attendees

MOUNT FOREST – During the Mount Forest Fireworks Festival last month, the Mount Forest Firefighters Association held its annual Firefighters Breakfast on July 19.

The breakfast took place from 7am to 12pm at the Mount Forest Firehall, with admission by donation.

There was also an antique fire truck show from 8am to 2:30pm.

Firefighters called the event an opportunity to support those who serve the local community, “fuel up for a fun filled festival day,” and “enjoy a hearty breakfast with our local heroes.”

Councillor Steve McCabe said by 9:30am, over 900 people had arrived at the hall for breakfast, and deputy fire chief Callise Loos said the department ended up serving 1,229 breakfasts by noon.

“Boy, that’s quite an undertaking to serve that many people breakfast,” said Mayor Andy Lennox.

McCabe added, “And, in the midst of that, there was a fire call to Arthur so some of the firefighters had to rip down to help out with the Arthur fire house as well.”

“It was a busy, busy day,” said Loos.

“Kudos to all of the team there, Callise, and just a great bunch of firefighters who not only protect us, but also feed us and do so much for this community,” McCabe said.
