MINTO – A driver and business face 11 charges and 10 warnings after being stopped during a proactive traffic enforcement initiative on July 8.
At about 2pm Wellington OPP stopped a commercial vehicle on Wellington Road 109.
A 65-year-old from Harriston was charged with driving a commercial motor vehicle with a major defect, driving with an improperly secured load, failure to accurately complete a daily inspection report, overweight on tires, improper tires, overweight single axle (single tires) and improperly driving commercial motor vehicle with a minor defect.
An associated business is charged with failing to ensure performance standards are met, improper tires, failure to ensure under-vehicle inspection is conducted properly and permitting operation of commercial motor vehicle with load not secured as prescribed.
Both the driver and the business were given verbal warnings for an additional 10 offences.
All accused involved are scheduled to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
No insurance
WELLINGTON NORTH – A traffic stop here led to Wellington OPP laying four charges.
At about 10:30am on July 7 police officers stopped a vehicle on Concession 11 during a proactive traffic enforcement initiative.
A 63-year-old from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township was charged with driving without insurance, driving while suspended, failing to properly wear a seat belt and using unauthorized plates.
European residents charged
CENTRE WELLINGTON – A man and a woman from Europe have been charged after a vehicle tried to evade police here last week.
On July 7 at about 7:30pm, Wellington County OPP officers performing a traffic enforcement initiative observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.
Police say the officers tried to pull the vehicle over on Wellington Road 26 in Centre Wellington Township.
“Once the traffic stop was signaled, the motor vehicle failed to stop and instead fled the area, prompting an investigation,” police stated in a press release.
Paddy O’Shea, 18, of Ireland, was charged with flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving, performing a stunt (excessive speed) and driving without a licence.
Layla Cash, 23, of the United Kingdom, was charged with obstructing a peace officer.
The vehicle was impounded and Cash and O’Shea were held for a bail hearing.
Driver charged
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A Fergus resident is facing seven charges after a traffic stop here last week.
Wellington County OPP officials say officers monitoring traffic on Highway 6 in Guelph/Eramosa pulled over a vehicle at about 5pm on July 7.
A 25-year-old from Fergus was charged with driving an unsafe vehicle, defective braking system, failing to surrender a permit, driving without a permit, improper tires, improper mudguards and driving without emission control equipment.
