ROCKWOOD – The community of Rockwood gathered to celebrate Rockwood Football Club (FC) as it hosted its first annual “Stuff the Net” Food Drive, which coincided with the club’s Photo Day on June 14.
Held at the Rockwood FC fields, the event invited players, families and community members to bring non-perishable food items in support of the East Wellington Community Services (EWCS) Food Bank.
Thanks to the incredible support from the Rockwood community, the food drive collected a significant amount of food donations and raised over $500 in monetary contributions, officials say.
“The donation table, set up near the photo area, quickly became a hub of activity as attendees arrived with bags full of canned goods, pasta, cereals and other essentials,” officials stated in a press release.
“Volunteers from Rockwood FC and EWCS were on hand to collect, sort, and thank donors for their contributions.”
The food drive directly benefits the EWCS Food Bank, which serves individuals and families across the east Wellington region. With demand for food support continuing to rise, events like “Stuff the Net” play a crucial role in keeping shelves stocked and spirits high, officials say.
Rockwood FC plans to make the food drive an annual tradition, building on this year’s success to make an even greater impact in years to come.
