$31,000 grant gives kids a place to play in Colbeck

GRAND VALLEY – The Town of Grand Valley and the Colbeck Playground Park Committee recently announced the spring construction of a playground in Colbeck.

With the help of a $31,000 Capital Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), the project committee is proceeding with equipment orders to have the playground ready for this summer.

The equipment that will be purchased with OTF grant funds will include slides, swings, climbers and sensory-promoting equipment to help stimulate all forms of creative physical play in an accessible space.

With additional support from the town and help from several donors, fencing will be installed around the play area to increase safety for families using the playground.

The playground will be built on town-owned land, on the property of the former St. Clement’s Anglican Church, then the Colbeck Women’s Institute Hall, which was removed in 2015.

Cairn on property

A cairn was constructed on the property in 2017 to commemorate the site’s history.

With the installation of a playground, the site will continue to be used for activities and events, to the benefit of the hamlet of Colbeck and its surrounding community.
