Three deserving charities were drawn from the basket and nominators made a short presentation about each charity.

The December winning charity was Crime Stoppers Guelph-Wellington and as such they received over $10,000 from the 100 Women Who Care Rural Wellington group.

While ballots were being counted, the September winning charity – Raw Carrot Gourmet Soup Enterprise was given the opportunity to express their sincere thanks for the gift of $10,000.

Managing director of the Raw Carrot Gourmet Soup Enterprise Janice Benson provided a brief summary of what the money was used.

Benson  explained the organization is a social enterprise that employs people with disabilities to make soup.

Benson said the organization has purchased some new cooking equipment and new freezers.

The local group is cooking 25 per cent more soup than last year which means more people are able to experience the satisfaction of gainful employment and through marketing and promotional efforts, they have been able to expand their retail presence.

This means more people can purchase the soup which in turn leads to more soup needing to be made which means more people can be employed

Benson described it as a win-win-win and the Raw Carrot Gourmet Soup Enterprise was very grateful to the 100 Women Who Care Rural Wellington for their valuable contribution.

The next meeting of 100 Women Who Care Rural Wellington is March 16 at the Alma Community Centre.

Doors open at 6pm and the meeting starts at 7pm sharp.
