100 Women Who Care Rural Wellington donates over $10,000 to local charity

WELLINGTON COUNTY – COVID-19 may have put a stop to many activities, but it could not stop 100 Women Who Care Rural Wellington from providing much-needed support to local charities.

At the June virtual meeting of 100 Women Who Care Rural Wellington, the Community Resource Centre (CRC) of North and Centre Wellington was selected as the winning charity.

The $10,000 plus donation will be used to help support the CRC’s school backpack program.

This program provides a backpack and essential school supplies to low-income families in Wellington County. The child recipients can head back to school equipped with all the items they need for a successful year.

A press release from the organization states the donation from 100 Women Who Care Rural Wellington will allow the CRC to increase the number of participating students.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected those living on a low income, and, as a result, there will be more demand than ever for this assistance,” officials state.

If there are any residual funds from the donation, they will be used to support students throughout Wellington County who may need additional tutoring to succeed in their academic studies.

“We are so appreciative of this kind gift from 100 Women Who Care Rural Wellington. The funds they have provided will allow us to even the playing field for students from low-income families,” said CRC executive director Ron MacKinnon.

“On their first day of school, they will be equipped to start the year on the right foot,”
