Zumbathon honours local doctor

One of the great things about life in a small town is that when a crisis happens, people pull together. In this case, they Zumba together.

When Dr. Nicole Petrov, mother of two and a family physician with  the Upper Grand Health Team’s Elora office went public in September that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, it created a ripple effect in the community.

In support of her battle to beat the disease, and as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Party In Pink Zumbathon charity event will take place on Oct. 19 from 7pm to 9pm at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.

The goal is to get “movin’ to end breast cancer” by raising funds and awareness.

Admission is $10, with 75 percent of funds raised donated directly to fund breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs.

The event is hosted by Sara Schleen, registered Zumba fitness instructor.

Tickets for the Oct. 19 event are available in advance at the following locations: Curves in Fergus, Fraberts Fresh Foods, Peared in Elora, I Love Chocolate, Little Tree Nursery or are available at the door before the event.

There will be door prizes and raffle tickets for sale at the event. All proceeds from the raffles will go to Dr. Petrov and her family.
