A Centre Wellington councillor recently suggested municipalities need to consider youth as partners.

On Aug. 27, Morris described his attendance at an AMO breakout session regarding the City of London.

Morris said the speakers were two younger individuals who talked about the city’s current youth initiative.

“It is not an initiative funded by the city, but rather other sources. But it works in conjunction with the city,” Morris said.

He told council what he found interesting was that these representatives said “the youth of London and the youth across Ontario care about the same things that older people care about.”

Morris said, “one thing we should be careful about in dealing with youth in our community is that we don’t treat them as students to be educated, but more as partners to be engaged.”

“It is worth remembering,” Morris added.
