Wightman Heels for Hospitals raises $12,000

The fourth annual Wightman Telecom Heels for Hospitals event raised just over $12,000 for area hospitals on Oct. 20.

Wightman Marketing Manager Hope Robertson said a great response to a community challenge to local businesses, service groups and members of the community helped the event surpass last year’s total of $9,000.

“We had more than 50 people present at this year’s event, including our MPP Randy Pettapiece, and it was a fantastic time,” stated Robertson .

Nick Sawicki from 101.7 the One walked with the group in heels donated by Knapps Shoes, Listowel. Tim Hortons,  Harriston and Patti’s Place, Clifford, provided refreshments.

Wightman’s community challenge brought out teams from the Town of Minto, Patti’s Place, Larry Grummett Insurance, Clifford Rotary, Minto Chamber of Commerce, and WC Smith.

Wightman Telecom donated $20 for every participant present at the walk.

Organizers Robertson, Carolyn Schiestel and Susan Rawn thought the innovative and unconventional idea to take pledges and walk one kilometre in high heels would be a fun way to raise awareness and money for local hospitals.

All proceeds raised are pledged through the CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon. In its first four years, the event has raised more than $29,000.
