Wellington Warrior Challenge raises more than $42,000 to beat cancer

Warriors braved the cold on Oct. 3 for the fourth annual Wellington Warrior Challenge to raise approximately $42,000, a $15,000 increase over last year, that will go directly to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Michelle Horwood, community fundraising specialist for the Wellington County branch of the Canadian Cancer Society, said 207 people participated in the five-kilometre mud run at Cox Creek Cellars – up 100 participants from last year.

This year’s race received good feedback despite the cooler weather – and the newest feature was a hit.

“The water slide was incredibly popular,” Horwood said, adding next year’s Wellington Warrior Challenge is already set for Sept. 24 at Cox Creek Cellars.
