Wellington pondering roundabouts in Puslinch
It looks like there could be new roundabouts along Wellington Road 34 here.
In its May report to the Wellington County roads committee, county engineer Gord Ough stated, “It has been established that there is a requirement for the implementation of traffic control measures at the intersection of Wellington Road 34 and Wellington Road 32, and at Wellington Road 34 at Wellington Road 35.”
He noted that a few years ago, Triton Engineering was engaged to investigate the comparative merits for installing turning lanes and traffic signals versus roundabouts at these two locations.” He stated roundabouts were chosen as the preferred approach.
“The cost of construction as well as the ongoing maintenance costs of the roundabouts versus the signal intersection option, and consideration of the fact that [County Road] 34 is a designated Emergency Detour Route (EDR) for Highway 401, favors the roundabout option.”
During the spring roads tour in 2011 the likelihood that roundabouts would be proposed at those two locations appeared to be received favourably by the local politicians.
“In anticipation of finalizing the design and scheduling these two intersection projects, a public information centre has been scheduled to take place at the Puslinch Community Centre on Brock Road in Aberfoyle on June 19, in the early evening.”
