The Township of Wellington North has received reports that a coyote has been seen in the Wellington Street and King Street area in Mount Forest. These sightings have been in the early morning and evening hours. Authorities have been notified of the sightings.

Wellington North encourages residents to exercise caution when outdoors and to keep a close watch on children and small animals. If you should see a coyote please call the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.

Do not approach the coyote. Making yourself loud and big or throwing objects at the coyote should cause the animal to leave the area. Removing sources of food, protecting your pets by keeping them on a leash or indoors, cleaning up after your pets and securing garbage and compost will help encourage coyotes to go elsewhere. Further information about coyotes can be found on the Ministry of Natural Resources website at www.mnr.gov.on.ca.

If you have any questions,  contact the municipal office at 519-848-3620.
