Wellington North council briefs

Wellington North has a new treasurer.

Michael Givens has been hired to replace John Jeffery who retired in early May.

Givens comes from Mapleton Township where he has served as director of finance for the past five years. The Fanshawe College graduate holds a diploma in Business Administration-Accounting.

Prior to working in Mapleton, Givens was employed by Howick Township and at the Canada Revenue Agency.

He attended the July 23 council meeting and officially greeted council members.

The new treasurer was shortlisted from a group of 11 candidates, which was later chopped to three.

Givens is an avid golfer and curler and is married to Sarah. The couple has two daughters.

He will take up the new post on August 1.

Reassessment

The Arthur Health Services facility has officially been designated a tax-free service by council.

Township chief  administrative officer Lori Heinbuch told council at its meeting Monday evening the facility had received a commercial designation when assessed by MPAC (Municipal Property Assessment Corp.).

“We had problems with MPAC with regards to the medical centre,” Heinbuch told council.

The facility is located in the new library building in Arthur.

Council voted in favor of revising its 2008 bylaw to include the tax exempt designation.
