Wellington Heights students experience Grade 9 Camp

Grade 9 camp – Eighty-one Grade 9 students from Wellington Heights Secondary School in Mount Forest attended Grade 9 Camp from Sept. 21 to 23.  During the trip, students participated in a variety of activities, including high rope climbing, rock wall climbing, a blind walk, road hockey, basketball, Pictionary, shelter building, and other fun camp activities at the Youth Leadership Camp Canada (YLCC) in Orillia.

Students were organized into mixed groups that rotated, so that they had multiple opportunities to meet fellow Grade 9 students who had graduated from a variety of elementary schools across the north Wellington region. Also present at the camp were LINK Crew members, who are trained senior high school students whose job is to help Grade 9 students become familiar with, and welcome at, secondary school. Supervising the camp were teachers of Grade 9 students and camp counsellors, who also helped foster relationship and community building through the activities, and through conversations between activities, school officials state.
