Wellington Heights Secondary School CELP students clean up around Mount Forest

CELP cleanup – The Wellington Heights Secondary School (WHSS) Community Environmental Leadership Program (CELP) did a clean up around Mount Forest on March 25. The group was planning a clean-up in Arthur for April 7.

Besides collecting litter, the students removed an old mattress from beside the Legion, old rusted barrels and tires from Murphy’s Creek, and industrial building waste dumped at the end of dead-end roads. After collection, the students applied their knowledge of waste diversion by separating all of the garbage into paper and container recycling, scrap metal, hazardous waste and landfill.

“They were very enthusiastic and once one group heard about the quantity and types of items another group had their competitive nature kicked in,” said WHSS CELP teacher Matthew Timberlake.
