Wellington County emergency crews were among those who responded to a large tent collapse here last weekend.

On Aug. 2 at about 4:36pm, Grey County OPP responded to Southgate Road 14, south east of Hopeville, in the Township of Southgate after receiving a report of a large tent that collapsed, injuring several people.

Police say about 100 people were under the tent attending a private social event when the incident occurred.  Inclement weather, consisting of very strong winds, rain and hail in the area caused the tent to collapse, injuring nine people. They were taken to area hospitals and treated for minor injuries.

Emergency Services from Grey, Dufferin, Wellington and Simcoe counties assisted at the scene. Police say the Ministry of Labour was notified of the incident.
