As Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj called the meeting to order on Aug. 13 she commented “... of all the weekends to rain.”

Ross-Zuj was commenting on the numerous events set throughout the township this past weekend.

“There were wonderful events over the weekend such as jazz on the river, the opening of the greenspace corner in Elora, and the Fergus Scottish Festival.

“We just had to celebrate the rain. It followed us through all of the events this past weekend.” She added, “But we really needed the rain.”

Ross-Zuj referred to GRCA manager of communications Dave Schultz who called it the million dollar rain.

“I think that is absolutely correct because it saved a lot of things. There were a lot of farmers out there who were so relieved to see the amount rain come down.”

But she added it certainly didn’t dampen the spirit of those attending local events on the weekend.

However, she agreed the weather may have kept a few people away from the events.

“It was a bear-with-it weekend, you just had to kind of enjoy it.”
