Community members are asked to put on their walking shoes and join the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington for its 2015 Walk for Memories.
The indoor walk will take place on Jan. 25 and is put on by Your Neighbourhood Credit Union.
Both individuals and teams can participate in the walk. There is no minimum or maximum number of walkers needed per team, making it easier to rally a group together.
There is also no registration fee but participants are encouraged to collect pledges. All of the funds raised will support the Alzheimer Society Waterloo Wellington.
“Our walk is one of our biggest events and everyone has a great time. With walks all over Waterloo Wellington, it’s easy to participate,” said executive director Jennifer Gillies in the press release. “Last year we raised over $155,000 and this year we are hoping to top that amount.”
In Wellington County the walk is taking place at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex in Mount Forest from 9am to 12pm. There is also a walk occurring at the Old Quebec Street Shoppes and office suites in Guelph from 9am to 12pm with two other locations in Cambridge and Waterloo.
There are now over 10,000 people in the Waterloo Wellington region living with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia. By 2024, this number is expected to grow by almost 50 per cent.
Alzheimer Society Waterloo Wellington provides information, education and support through individual counselling and support groups to persons with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, their care partners, families, health professionals and the general public.
