Victorian Order of Nurses announced recently it will be holding Community Champions Week as a part of its March for Meals campaign.
Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj, Wellington North Mayor Ray Tout and Vic Folliott of The Grand 92.9 will participate in the event to show their support for seniors.
VON’s Community Champions Week, celebrated during the third week of March, will include having these community leaders deliver Meals on Wheels to seniors and adults with disabilities in their communities.
March for Meals seeks to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of the local community.
Community Champions Week is a component of March for Meals that utilizes the involvement of local mayors and other local elected officials.
Meals on Wheels services are offered throughout Wellington County and Guelph. VON provides hot, home cooked meals in north and Centre Wellington prepared in its government-inspected kitchens. Meals in Guelph and south Wellington are provided in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross. Frozen meals are provided to east Wellington and all other areas of Wellington County. In Centre Wellington and north Wellington close to 2,200 hot meals are delivered each month.
