Volunteers sought for Family and Children Services

MINTO – Family and Children’s Services of Guelph and Wellington County (FCSGW) is looking for volunteers, especially those able to drive clients to activities and appointments.

Correspondence received on March 19 by Minto council from FCSGW coordinator of volunteer services Hannah Senitt indicates the agency is actively recruiting volunteers “to be part of our caring community as drivers, family support volunteers and mentors.

“Our volunteer program provides meaningful opportunities for individuals to directly impact the lives of the children, youth and families that we serve. Mentors and family support volunteers work one-on-one providing connection to community and helping to reduce isolation.”

Currently the agency’s “greatest need” is volunteer drivers.

“Support from volunteer drivers helps reduce barriers to safe and reliable transportation for those we serve by supporting access to family visits, appointments and activities,” Senitt notes.

An online information session is set for April 16 from 2 to 3pm.

“This is an opportunity to learn more about volunteering with FCSGW and our on-boarding process. This session is open to everyone in the community,” the letter states.

Councillor Judy Dirksen highlighted the agency’s request to bring it to public attention when correspondence was discussed at the meeting.

Deputy mayor Jean Anderson urged council members to consider participating in the information session.

Information provided by FCSGW states volunteer drivers receive milage and are reimbursed for expenses related to volunteering.
