Van den Hovens receive award for volunteerism

Harriston Motors owners Paul and Ashley Van den Hoven are the Town of Minto’s recipients of the Rick Adamson Award for Community Volunteerism from the Wellington Dufferin Mutual Aid Association.

The Van den Hovens were recognized for operating their Touch-A-Truck event, which has raised close to $20,000 for the Minto fire department  since its inception. The money has been used to purchase confined space rescue equipment and finance a carbon monoxide awareness program.

The Van den Hovens were accompanied by a large contingent of Minto Fire fighters at the association’s annual banquet, where they received the award from members of Adamson’s family.

The award was initiated in 2014 by fire chiefs in Wellington County in memory of Adamson, an Erin firefighter who passed away from cancer. The award is presented to one recipient from each fire department in Wellington County.

“They were deserving recipients and it was an honor to nominate them,” stated Fire Chief Chris Harrow in a report presented at the Jan. 6 Minto council meeting.
