Two all candidates meetings already set in Guelph-Eramosa

Voters in Guelph-Eramosa will have an opportunity to hear issues raised by candidates for the Oct. 27 municipal election at two all-candidates debates already scheduled.

The Guelph Township Horticultural Society will host a debate on Sept. 30 at 7pm,  at the Marden Community Centre.  On Oct. 1, the Rockwood Lions Club is hosting an all-candidates meeting at 7pm at the Rockmosa Community Centre.

Candidates have until Sept. 12 to file nomination papers with the township.

Currently there is a race for the mayor’s position with incumbent Mayor Chris White facing a challenge from councillor John Scott.

Incumbent ward one councillor David Wolk and ward two councillor Corey Woods are seeking re-election in their respective wards.

 In Ward four, the seat currently held by Scott, Mark Bouwmeester is facing off against Doug Tripp.

In Ward three, J. Robbin Wood and Louise Marshall have filed their nomination papers.

The Ward three seat is currently held by councillor Doug Breen, who is seeking the county council Ward eight seat now held by Gord Tosh.

Incumbent Don McKay and   Kevin Johnson are seeking election in Ward seven for county council.

Kathryn Cooper, the current Upper Grand District School Board trustee for the local ward, which also includes portions of the Town of Erin and Township of East Garafraxa, is the only trustee candidate to file for the post. Cassandra Chornoboy has filed for the trustee position with the Wellington Catholic District School  Board, representing Erin, Guelph-Eramosa and Puslinch.  Blaise Liaki has filed for a trustee with the French Catholic School Board.
