Twelve schools in WDGPH region reporting COVID-19 cases - one in Wellington
WELLINGTON COUNTY – As of March 16, 12 schools in the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) region, including one in Wellington County, are reporting active COVID-19 cases.
The Upper Grand District School Board was reporting cases at 10 schools:
- Westwood Public School in Guelph, three cases, one classroom closed;
- Parkinson Centennial Public School in Orangeville, one case, one classroom closed;
- Jean Little Public School in Guelph, one case, one classroom closed;
- Fred A. Hamilton Public School in Guelph, one case, all classrooms open;
- Spencer Avenue Elementary School in Orangeville, one case, all classrooms open;
- Guelph Lake Public School in Guelph, one case, one classroom closed;
- Ken Danby Public School in Guelph, two cases, two classrooms closed;
- Ottawa Crescent Public School, two cases, two classrooms closed;
- John Galt Public School in Guelph, one case, all classrooms open; and
- Taylor Evans Public School in Guelph, one case, one classroom closed.
As of March 16, the Wellington District Catholic School Board was reporting one case – at St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School, Fergus, which has one classroom closed.
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is reporting one case at St. Benedict elementary school in Orangeville (classroom closures unknown).
Across Ontario, 893 schools currently have active COVID-19 cases and 29 schools are closed due to outbreaks.
Locally, students returned to in-class instruction on Feb. 8 after five weeks of online learning due to the province-wide lockdown and stay-at-home order.
Since then 40 schools in the WDGPH region have reported cases of COVID-19.
Prior to the Christmas holiday break, a total of 53 schools and five child care facilities in the region had reported cases since September.
