Tree Trust takes root in Elora this Saturday

ELORA – Tree Trust, a project of the Elora Environment Centre, is taking root in Elora this weekend. It is described in a press release as Canada’s first local carbon offset program that plants new trees and cares for large legacy trees.

The June 1 launch begins at the Elora Community Centre at 9:30am.

Professional arborists will trim one of Elora’s historic trees while Tree Trust historians share Elora’s tree history, and participants help plant new trees. Later a guided tree walk of Elora showcasing efforts to grow the local urban canopy.

From 2pm to 4pm, the Elora Centre For the Arts hosts the opening of a new art exhibit See The Forest Through The Trees. The exhibit features art from local youth exploring mental health and wellness.

Residents are invited to see the economic, social and environmental benefits trees bring the community.
