Guelph-Eramosa Township has developed a new policy outlining the steps required for residents to obtain “no parking” designations on township roads.

“Before it was kind of hit and miss,” said Mayor Chris White. “This policy will ensure we’re getting full input from residents.”

The main points of the policy, which was approved by council on Sept. 4, include:

- all requests shall be initiated by a petition showing 75% of households on the street support the no parking designation;

- petitions will be sent to the township clerk, who will forward them to council;

- if council agrees to investigate, township staff will confer with one another and any applicable agencies, including the police;

- the bylaw enforcement officer will then present findings and a recommendation to council; and

- the initial petitioner or organizer will be notified of the council meeting at which the findings will be presented.
