The Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue Department is advising everyone that all open air burning within the township requires an open air burning permit.
That includes outdoor fireplaces, recreational campfires and all other outdoor fires.
Standard open air burning permits for outdoor fireplaces and recreational campfires are valid from the time of issuance to the end of that calendar year. A permit fee of $25 is applicable.
The permits can be obtained by completing the permit application found at www.centrewellington.ca.
Click Online Burning Permit to complete the permit application found under Online Services menu.
Payment options include: Visa, Master Card and Interac Online (with participating financial institutions.)
The online system allows people to obtain a permit if they suddenly decide they would like a fire on the weekend.
Residents can also obtain a permit at the administration office of the Fergus Fire Station, 250 Queen St. W. from Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and 4:30pm, with cash or cheque.
Officials noted that any variance to the open air burning permit for an outdoor fireplace or recreational campfire must be approved. If an inspection of the site is required by the Public Safety Officer, a permit fee of $40 is applicable.
