Town supports Elliott’s nomination to OSUM executive committee

MINTO – Town council has approved a motion of support for councillor Ron Elliott’s nomination to the executive committee of Ontario Small Urban Municipalities (OSUM).

“Councillor Elliott has been on this committee for a number of years and certainly this council thinks it’s very worthwhile,” stated Mayor Dave Turton at the March 21 council meeting.

“This is just another Minto person serving on a board outside the town and it’s extremely important to this community,” Turton added. “We have had numerous people do this and it always comes back in spades.”

Elliott thanked council for supporting his nomination, pointing out the association gives a voice to small municipalities similar to Minto.

“Most of the communities that I’m dealing with are our size, probably a little larger, but they all have the same kind of problems we have,” he pointed out.

Elliott noted an upcoming OSUM conference call would be dealing with a number of issues including homelessness, which he said occurs in communities of all sizes across the province.
