Town council cost $96,387 in 2009

Though the numbers are released for information only, many residents are very interested in exactly how much money local politicians make in a given year.

In Erin, the total remuneration and expenses paid to councillors in 2009 was $96,387.

Mayor Rod Finnie made $23,998 in pay, plus $3,693 in expenses, for a total of $27,691.

Councillor Josie Winter­singer was paid $13,946 plus $3,943, for a total of $17,889. Councillor John Brennan’s totals were $13,882, $3,691 and $17,573 respectively.

Councillor Barb Tocher was paid a total of $17,555, including $13,761 in remuneration and $3,794 in expenses. Coun­cillor Ken Chapman’s total was $15,677, with $13,441 in pay and $2,235 in expenses.

Other expenses

The total cost last year for the town’s committee of adjustment (CA) and livestock evaluators/fence viewers (L/F) was $3,732.

The following totals were paid to the various members of those committees (including both remuneration and expenses):

- $1,667 to Wayne Parkinson (both CA and L/F);

- $1,276 to Neil Baldwin (both CA and L/F);

- $549 to Jeff Duncan (CA);

- $106 to Fred Cox (L/F);

- $92 to Harry Moore (L/F); and

- $40 to Edward McKelvey (L/F).
