Town approves tax rate bylaw and bridge, paving projects

Town council officially approved the 2008 tax rate bylaw at its last meeting in May.As reported in the May 16 Advertiser, Erin homeowners will pay $279 in town taxes and $1,302 in total taxes for every $100,000 in assessment. That means for the average town home assessed at $300,000 taxpayers will pay $837 in Erin taxes and $3,906 in total taxes.

The town portion represents an increase of 8.12%, while the overall tax bill is up about 4%.

Bridge, paving quotes

Also at its final meeting last month, Erin council approved a bid of $31,717 for the supply of a pedestrian bridge to be installed on Mill Street in Erin village. As well, council okayed the tender for the paving of the 9th  Line south of Erin village to the Halton boundary, as well as a section of 15 Sideroad to the 10th Line. Graham Bros. Con­struction submitted the lowest bid, at $419,677 plus GST.
